Samtec has provided Final Inch designs for years at no cost. Final Inch is a reference design report for a PCB launch, or break-out-region (BOR), for one of our connectors. Obviously the BOR/launch must be carefully designed to allow for the best possible high-frequency performance. As we introduce new precision RF interconnects we continue to push the limits on mmWave test boards and the design of our RF Launches. I recently spoke with Kelly Garrison, Samtec's Principal RF Engineer, about … [Read more...]

And BTW, I know this isn't breaking news, but it seems that … [Read more...]
SC20 Virtual Demonstrations
HPC is the underpinning for many of today’s most exciting new research areas, from machine learning to artificial intelligence to quantum computing. Scientists, researchers, and data analysts from academia, industry and government agencies will be center stage at SC20. As data rate requirements approach and surpass 112 Gbps PAM4, developers are challenged with balancing increasing throughput, scalability and density demands with concerns such as power consumption, signal integrity, thermal … [Read more...]

Samtec Technologists to Present at EDI CON Online 2020
EDI CON Online: Where High Frequency Meets High Speed The tagline of the event stays the same in 2020. Why mess with a good thing? Why change what is working? As with last year, EDI CON Online aims to bring RF, microwave, EMC/EMI, high-speed digital design and system integrator technologists together virtually. Why? For networking, training and learning opportunities in latest high speed and high frequency applications. EDI CON Online was so successful last year, they have expanded … [Read more...]
New Samtec Products and Technologies Presented At Tech Days
Our friends at EETech are sponsoring Industry Tech Days. Although they didn’t ask for my advice, I suggested they use the tagline of “Three Days of Peace and Music” for the event. They rejected that brilliant (and original) suggestion and went with “the largest ever virtual trade show and conference for electrical engineers worldwide.” Next, I proactively suggested “Have It Your Way” as a slogan to describe the variety of content available. Not knowing a good idea when they hear … [Read more...]
Is the CPU, GPU, FPGA, or ASIC Better?
My first computer put out a crazy 33 MHz of processing power from the 486 CPU. That was on "Turbo Mode" of course, and when it was turned off we were left with 16 MHz. Insert frowny face. Maybe you are too young to remember a turbo button, but if you aren't you can probably remember there was rarely a time you would turn it off. In the times that you did it was because of software requirements, and you probably felt as though you had lost something. At least I did. Fast forward to today, … [Read more...]
Samtec Solutions for Military & Aerospace Applications
The Military & Aerospace world utilizes products in harsh conditions, and the products must be able to properly perform. Because of this, many Mil/Aero manufacturers typically use full MIL-Spec products. Severe Environment Testing (SET) is a Samtec initiative to test certain products beyond typical industry standards and specifications, many of which are common requirements for harsh environment applications/industries. Driven by demands for high functioning commercial standard … [Read more...]
