Samtec Harrisburg attended the 17th annual Penn State Harrisburg Signal/Power Integrity Symposium and MASH Forum on Friday, April 19th 2024, hosted by the Center for Signal Integrity. The main goal of the SI/PI and MASH (Mid-Atlantic Semiconductor Hub) forum is connecting academia and industry. The yearly symposium focuses on the development of new signal integrity applications, and continual educational services like STEM programs.
Highlights of the Symposium
Participants from numerous electronic segments presented at the Penn State Symposium event, such as Dr. Tom Coughlin, 2024 President and CEO of IEEE. Dr. Coughlin talked on the CHIPS Act and the implications of it for the semiconductor industry and its associated influence on the connector industry and consumer electronics. Dr. Tom Coughlin’s presentation mainly focused on how IEEE is developing new capabilities and resources to help bridge the gap of academia and industry fields. Dr. Eric Bogatin, professor of Signal Integrity from Colorado Boulder, was also in attendance. Dr. Bogatin’s presentation was geared more at students in regards to low cost SI tools for measurement- simulation correlation on a personal budget.
A variety of workshops focused on SI/PI troubleshooting measures like crosstalk, de-embedding, and our partners from Rohde & Schwarz tested multiport S-Parameters matrix using a fixed number of VNA physical ports, (demonstrating with Samtec SiFly Low Profile cable solution) and PCIe Gen 6.0 capability. For systems design and hardware engineers, Signal Integrity fundamentals are key pieces to understanding how to improve your channel’s metrics and performance. You can download all of the presentations from the SI/PI and MASH Forum.
