Designing and optimizing a breakout region (or component launch) for a connector can be challenging. It often requires multiple back and forth iterations and analysis to adjust variables. Samtec’s new SIBORGTM (Signal Integrity Breakout Region Guru) is a free tool that works with Ansys HFSS 3D Layout to generate, visualize, optimize, and develop PCB package and component breakout regions (BORs), enabling Samtec customers to design component launches faster. SIBORG was initially intended to be … [Read more...]
Samtec and Rohde & Schwarz Discuss Testing PCIe 5.0/6.0 Cable Implementations
DesignCon 2024 recently highighted the ongoing trend for sending high-speed data over twinax cable assmblies. As AI/ML, HPC, data center and computing system architectures evolve, twinax cable assmeblies can be found in ASIC adjacent or near chip applications as well as solutions routing front-panel to front-panel. PCI Express® technology also is playing a key role in GPU-to-GPU communications as AI clusters become larger and disaggregated. Connecting GPU-based AI systems does and will … [Read more...]

For the Love of Tigers!
Long ago, someone referred to Samtec as a different breed of cat. This is where our Tiger mascot originated. A Blog from years ago talks more of the details on how and why it stuck so well. What I am focused on today is the evolution of our love of tigers. Walk around any Samtec facility and you will see countless tigers living amongst the office spaces, meeting room and productions areas. We also distribute thousands of Tigers at many of our larger tradeshows. We have customers who … [Read more...]

Do You Want to Go Fast?
With the global headquarters of Samtec in Southern Indiana, we are surrounded by people wanting to go Fast! A few weeks ago we watched horses go fast in the 148th Kentucky Derby. This past weekend we watched Indy Cars go fast during the 106th Indianapolis 500. A driver or jocky's decision-making and reaction time made me think of delays or latency when it comes to the interconnect market. High-speed connectors are a sweet spot for Samtec and if you are unfamiliar with some of our offerings … [Read more...]

Instrumentation & The Chocolate Factory
There’s an iconic episode of the I Love Lucy Show where Lucy and Ethel are working at a chocolate factory. They’ve been tasked with wrapping individual pieces of candy as they come out on a conveyor belt and if one gets through unwrapped then they are fired. Things quickly get out of hand as the candy starts coming out on the belt faster and faster. So of course, in order to keep up, Lucy and Ethel begin eating the candy and hiding it in their uniforms. Today there are many solutions … [Read more...]
You are Hot Stuff! An Intro to Thermal Management.
Being called Hot Stuff in a technical field is not always the first thing you hear unless something is actually on fire! You know though, it should be! Here you are reading a technical blog on Thermal Management techniques and designing products that some people may never fully see or understand. Take it from this S.T.U.D. (who gets to make up his own title for the video). You are doing great stuff, people like your work, and gosh you are Hot Stuff! In this blog, we will take a look at … [Read more...]
