224 Gbps PAM4; CXL over optics; 112 Gbps PAM4 cable with excellent performance while subjected to dynamic flexing; 800 G; 90 GHz test and validation solutions.
Samtec showcased a variety of live product demonstrations — both copper and optical — at DesignCon 2024. This included a boatload of Samtec Flyover® cable systems rated at 224 and 112 Gbps PAM4, which are used in mid-board, mid-board to front-panel, and mid-board to backplane applications.
In this video from DesignCon 2024, Samtec’s Keith Guetig walks us through some of these high-performance backplane and front panel solutions
224 Gbps PAM4 Solutions
We’ll begin with Si-Fly™ HD, a 224 Gbps PAM4 cable solution that can be routed to either a Samtec OSFP front panel interface, or to a new Si-Fly BP, micro backplane connector system. Si-Fly HD is the industry’s highest-density on-package or ASIC-adjacent cable system, with 207 differential pairs per square inch.
112 G Front Panel Samtec Flyover Cable Solutions
Next, Keith shows us a live product demonstration of a high-performance front panel interconnect solution. A Synopsys Ethernet PHY generates 112 Gbps PAM4 signals, which travel through a Samtec NovaRay® mid-board connector, through Samtec Eye Speed® ultra-low skew twinax cable, to a Samtec OSFP front panel connector. The signal loops back to the Synopsys PHY for analysis.
And the performance is solid: we’re seeing a BER of e-8, and wide-open eyes.
In addition to the OSFP live product demonstration (above), Samtec has a full line of high-speed cable assembly solutions. These include several interconnect solutions for 112 G front panel cable applications, including Samtec NovaRay I/O, Flyover QSFP-DD, Flyover QSFP, and Flyover SFP. High-Speed Backplane Interconnect Systems
Samtec high-speed backplane interconnect solutions include:
- The popular ExaMAX system which delivers 64 Gbps PAM4 (32 Gbps NRZ) electrical performance on a 2.00 mm column pitch,
- and the NovaRay backplane, and Si-Fly BP, both coming soon.
