448 Gbps Co-Packaged Copper Channel

At DesignCon 2026, there was a lot of talk about 448 Gbps and how next-gen systems will achieve this data rate. One of the first steps in developing these new systems is to provide test and measurement data to designers.

Samtec developed a prototype cable system representing a chip-to-chip, intra-tray GPU-to-GPU interconnect at 448 Gbps. A live demonstration of this system was showcased in the Samtec booth at DesignCon 2026. In the video above, Samtec’s Sandeep Sankararaman describes the demonstration and results.

A Keysight VNA (N5295AX03) measured the loss up to 125 GHz in our next-generation prototype Samtec Si-Fly® HD co-packaged copper system, or CPC.

Taking a closer look at the signal path, the 448 Gbps signal passes through Samtec Nitrowave® LL130 premium RF metrology cable, to 1 mm compression-mount precision RF connectors, and into the PCB routing of 13 mm.

It then routed through the Si-FLY HD 448 Gbps connector systems that are linked by 400 mm of Samtec EyeSpeed® Hyper Low Skew cable, and back to the VNA for analysis.

Looking at the results on the Keysight VNA, we see approximately only 20 dB insertion loss at 106.25 GHz.

Still here? Here are some more details on the Samtec products listed above.

Si-Fly HD:  Si-Fly HD co-packaged and near-chip systems provide the highest-density 224 Gbps PAM4 (and beyond) solution in today’s market. Electrically pluggable co-packaged copper and optics solutions (known as CPX) can be achieved on a 95 mm x 95 mm or smaller substrate using Samtec’s SFCM connector. The SFCM mounts directly to the package substrate and is pluggable with Samtec’s SFCC cable assembly or an optical cable assembly of your choosing. Contact [email protected] for more details.

Nitrowave:   Samtec’s next-generation RF coaxial cable offers improved stability with flexure. The coaxial structure — with an outer jacket colored in distinctive Samtec orange — is designed to meet increased demands placed on the aerospace, defense, datacom, computer/semiconductor, and instrumentation markets. Performance is optimized at frequencies that go beyond traditional industry targets to support emerging applications.

Samtec RF:  Samtec offers a wide range of RF cable assemblies available with low-loss microwave/millimeter wave cable from .047 to .277, RG type cable (316, 174, 178, 58, 179, 6), 12G-SDI Belden cables, high-density ganged and Samtec-optimized varieties. Interface types include 1.00 mm, 1.35 mm, 1.85 mm, 2.40 mm, 2.92 mm, SMA, SMPM, SMP, MCX, MMCX, BNC, High-Density BNC, MHF U.FL/W.FL, and more.
