New mPOWER Through‑Hole Board Connectors
mPOWER Through-Hole Board Termination
Samtec’s mPOWER® connector system, known for high power density and design flexibility, is now available with through-hole board termination options (Series: UMPT, UMPT-RA, UMPS).
Due to space constraints in high-density applications along with assembly efficiencies, micro interconnect systems—like mPOWER®— commonly terminate to a PCB using surface mount technology. However, there are applications that require the added durability and mechanical reinforcement of through‑hole board termination.
The excellent mechanical strength of through-hole, including increased sheer and pull force, make it particularly sought after in rugged military, aerospace and industrial environments. Having said that, with mPOWER® being roughly 40% smaller than traditional power connectors along with its incredible design flexibility, it can really be used in almost any power application where power density is a must.

Micro Design Flexibility
mPOWER® connectors are widely used in applications where power density is critical. The system also offers exceptional design flexibility with board-to-board mated set configurations from 5 mm to 20 mm stack height and perpendicular options, wire-to-board or wire-to-wire options with PVC or Teflon fluoropolymer cable in varying gauges, rugged latching, 2 to 10 positions, and either surface mount or through-hole connection to the board. Design options provide engineers even greater flexibility when balancing power density, mechanical strength, signal routing and other application‑specific requirements.
We’re Here to Help
Free access to data along with engineering support is part of Samtec’s Sudden Service® philosophy. It’s our way of helping you achieve your project goals throughout design, development and test processes. For specific current carrying capacity (CCC) and voltage comparisons, please reference the latest Design Qualification Reports located on each Series page. Since we’re focusing on our newest mPOWER® through-hole products in this blog, here are direct links to our latest through-hole reports: Vertical to Vertical mated sets and Right-Angle to Vertical mated sets.
Samtec Associate David Scopelliti prepared an excellent document with the goal of taking the confusion out of voltage and power ratings in published specifications and product information. The Connector Voltage and Power Rating 101 blog provides an overview of David’s document (a quick, easy read packed with lots of great information), or view the full document here: Power and Voltage Rating.
We value direct conversations with our customers and welcome your emails. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] with specific product or application questions.
