First-Place Flex: Samtec Wins Sustainability Award

Samtec has something else to celebrate: Flex, a global manufacturer and supply chain solutions provider, awarded Samtec the 2025 Flex Sustainability Award for first place in the Achieved RE (Renewable Energy) Target category.

So what does this mean? Flex’s award program aims to recognize top-tier global suppliers who demonstrate exceptional commitment and measurable progress in advancing environmental impact and supply chain sustainability. As a long-standing proponent of sustainability, Samtec takes its environmental impact seriously.

Flex (formerly Flextronics), named Ford Motor Company’s 2025 Sustainability Supplier of the Year, also takes sustainability seriously, and it maintains a gold rating from EcoVadis – a globally recognized sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) rating platform that evaluates how well a company integrates sustainability into its business operations and supply chain management.

Why Samtec

Samtec was selected for the Flex Sustainability Award for the Renewable Energy category due to our “dedication to continuous sustainability improvement and emissions reductions” while achieving and exceeding our environmental goals for 2025.

Specifically, we reduced our Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity by 25.3 percent relative to a 2019 baseline. Scope 1 emissions are direct greenhouse gases released on-site from owned or controlled sources. Scope 2 emissions are associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling and physically occur at the facility where they are generated.

Focus on Sustainability

How did we do it? Through combined impact of targeted energy-reduction initiatives and increased use of lower-carbon energy sources. And, a lot of hard work by Samtec’s Sustainability Team and facility managers.

For instance, Samtec exceeded its renewable energy target by increasing the share of renewables in our global energy portfolio to 21.5 percent. This progress was enabled by expanded green power agreements, strategic procurement of renewable energy credits, and the advancement of on-site renewable projects.

Notably, the installation of a photovoltaic solar power system at our Costa Rica manufacturing facility accounts for roughly 28 percent of its yearly total energy consumption.

In 2025, Samtec also focused on our water use, particularly in water-intensive processes such as electroplating. A new wastewater treatment facility began operation at our New Albany Headquarters and contributed greatly to our 20 percent water recycling rate across all global manufacturing operations.

In addition to renewable energy and water conservation, Samtec also completed emissions estimates at global locations in order to establish baselines and identify opportunities for future reductions in collaboration with partners and suppliers.

Overall, the Flex Sustainability Award recognizes the collective effort of the Samtec Sustainability Team combined with facility teams across the globe whose efforts have been successful, credible, and impactful in all the communities in which we operate.
