Quicken design cycles. Shorter test times. Faster time to market.
System architects, product designers and testing engineers have no doubt heard these mantras with every new project they start. Maybe they have had nightmares about these phrases as well!
In any case, shorter design and test times and faster time to market are necessary in today’s uber-competitive world. Samtec’s product development team lives and breathes these mantras everyday.
Thankfully, partners like Keysight help Samtec simplify product development. For twenty years, Keysight and Samtec have collaborated on high-speed interconnect design. Samtec’s SI experience and Keysight’s testing leadership make a powerful combination.
R&D Lab Test Time Reduced 98%
One area where Keysight has assisted Samtec is in reducing new product test time. At DesignCon 2020, Scott McMorrow, CTO of Samtec’s Signal Integrity Group, sat down with Mike Resso from Keysight.
They describe how Samtec has dramatically reduced their test time for 112 Gbps PAM4 interconnects using Keysight’s Physical Layer Test System (PLTS) with a 32-port PXIe Vector Network Analyzer (VNA).
Not only did Samtec cut test time from 4 hours to 5 minutes, they also achieved more repeatable measurements since they could capture all 1,024 S-parameters with a single measurement. Check out the video below for details.
50% Faster Time-to-Market
Keysight also helps Samtec achieve faster time to market. In another DesignCon 2020 video, Scott and Mike discuss a demonstration of the characterization of Samtec’s NovaRay™ 112 Gbps PAM4 Extreme Density Arrays. The new NovaRay™ SI Evaluation Kit is running at 112 Gbps PAM4 speeds.

Samtec used Keysight’s N1930B Physical Layer Test System (PLTS) with a 32-port M9808A 53 GHz PXIe Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The Samtec testing team achieved astounding test time savings because of the 32 separate measurement channels without sacrificing performance. Check out the video below for details.
Samtec and Keysight: Learning for the Future
Samtec’s on-going collaboration with Keysight has validated a new test and measurement platform (VNA + PLTS) for future 112 Gbps PAM4 product development. Samtec has also gained invaluable experience in NovaRay measurement and modeling correlation repeatable across new backplane and front-panel connectors and twinaxial cable assemblies.
