Samtec continues to expand its capabilities in support of backplane connector applications. In addition to our recent announcement with Amphenol, we continue to augment the ecosystem of support required for these high-speed, high-performance products.
When we announced the initial release of Channelyzer™ – Samtec’s Online Full Channel Simulation and Analysis tool – earlier this year, the tool initially supported only high-speed board-to-board applications. We are proud to announce that Channelyzer™ now supports high-speed Backplane Applications featuring solutions from our ExaMAX™ family of products.
The updated version of Channelyzer™ allows engineers to develop various simulated test results including BER reports and standard SI test based on user-defined transceivers. It also produces simulated test results for various standard including IEEE 100GBASE-KR4, OIF CEI-28G-SR, OIF CEI-28G-MR and OIF CEI-25G-LR.

Engineers can then define the high-speed serial channel as illustrated in the picture below.
Users have the option to choose either 4-pairs per column or 6-pairs per column when selecting the mated ExaMAX™ connector set for backplane applications. Users can also define transceiver types, package models, trace types, PCB material and other options.
After users have finished defining the system inputs, Channelyzer™ provides the necessary data to reinforce channel confidence. Details reported via e-mail within 24 hours include:
- Channel overview and strategies for improved performance
- Differential impedance, insertion loss, return loss, PSXT
- Voltage bathtub curves
- COM as a function of BER
- Probability density eye summary
Samtec has also updated their Channelyzer Getting Started Guide and Channelyzer Introduction Video to assist new users to quickly and easily familairize themselves with Channelyzer. All details are available at www.samtec.com/channelyzer.
