Engineers love samples. They often choose the right pin count, pitch, stack height, orientation or other design criteria based on what they see and feel. Samtec leads the industry in providing the connector samples engineer needs in a timely manner. Our mechanical product samples assist engineers in connector selection for their design projects.

Mechanical samples obviously help engineers choose standard board-to-board connectors, but what about more complex solutions? Do mechanical samples provide enough information to help select a backplane connector, high-speed board-to-board connectors or other high-performance, high-density solutions? Typically more support is needed.
Connector performance continues to grow while connector size continues to shrink. The evolution of ECAD and MCAD tools allows engineers to design their systems virtually. Over the past 15 years, Samtec has developed an in-house library of 2D/3D models of our most popular connectors based on the request of our customers. As they were developed, the 2D/3D models were made available online for downloading.
After downloading the model of choice, engineers use their MCAD tool of choice to design, model and simulate their system mechanically. As an example, here is a SOLIDWORKS training video featuring Samtec’s SCRE series in a metal enclosure.
The volume of 2D/3D models requests continues to grow. The number of 2D/3D models formats available is also increasing. Engineers also want (and need!) instant support. Waiting for a 2D/3D connector model to be developed from scratch is just no longer an option.

Since 2015, Samtec has been working with CADENAS PARTSolutions to develop an automated, interactive catalog of all our 2D and 3D models. This new approach to digital samples enables engineers to automatically generate any 2D/3D model they need in real-time in over 150 different formats.
