The global high-performance computing (HPC) ecosystem comes together each year at SuperComputing. SC22 offers data analysts and scientists, system architects, and design engineers the opportunity to learn, network, and explore the latest in HPC solutions.

As a global high-performance interconnect solutions provider, Samtec is a long-time sponsor of SuperComputing. This year, Samtec will feature the latest interconnect solutions in real-world high-performance product demonstrations. The event takes place November 13-18, 2022 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, TX.
Real-World High-Speed Product Demonstrations
Event attendees can stop by Samtec booth (#2010) to learn more about the following demos.
112 Gbps PAM4 AcceleRate® HP Cable Assemblies
AcceleRate® HP Cable Assemblies are the industry’s highest density 112 Gbps PAM4 system for cable-on-substrate, mid-board to front panel, and mid-board to backplane applications.
Key features and benefits include:
- High density: 32 to 72 total differential pairs (up to 96 pairs on the roadmap)
- 34 AWG Eye Speed® Ultra Low Skew Twinax
- 0.635 mm pitch
- 2.20/2.40 mm pitch row-to-row
- Supports today’s 256-channel chip and tomorrow’s 512-channel chip
- The cable assembly plugs directly into the connector on the chip substrate
- Signals route directly from the chip through the cable eliminating PCB routing
112 Gbps PAM4 Product Demonstrator
This live demonstration shows six of Samtec’s 112 Gbps PAM4 connector systems. It includes board-to-board connector sets, as well as two Samtec Flyover® cable systems. One is a mid-board to cable backplane configuration, and the other is a mid-board to front panel. These cable systems emulate real-world data center system architectures.
Each board has four Alphawave AlphaCORE Multi-Standard SerDes. For each connector set, the Alphawave SerDes is transmitting 112 Gbps PAM4 PRBS data, and we’re receiving and analyzing the signal performance on the other board.
PCIe® 4.0 Over Fiber with Hot Add

Samtec’s PCIe®-Over-Fiber FireFly™ Adapter Card (PCOA Series) was developed by our partner Dolphin Interconnect Solutions. The PCOA series utilizes Samtec’s PCI Express®-Over-Fiber FireFly™ Optical Cable Assemblies (PCUO series). Samtec is the only company in the world offering reset functionality and cable present sidebands in this form factor.
In HPC and data centers system architectures, common applications link PCIe® 4.0 hosts with Non-Volatile Memory Storage Endpoints (NVMe) either directly or via copper cable assemblies. The Samtec/Dolphin demo illustrates remote connections via 100 m fiber optics cable assemblies.
One of the new features of the adapter card is the capability to do a surprise hot add. A surprise hot add feature allows a new resource to be added to a system that is already running. The resource can be a storage device, camera, or GPU, or FPGA.
This allows a new resource to be added and be available without shutting down the server. Without the surprise hot add, the host needs to be rebooted to enumerate and find the PCIe® devices attached to the server. Designers can add devices on-the-fly, and when the device is restarted, it does so with zero errors.
New PCI Express® 5.0/6.0 Solutions
Samtec has developed an updated PCI Express® Interconnect Solutions Guide. This new tool summarizes a number of solutions supporting the PCI Express® applications including:
- PCI Express® CEM AIC Solutions
- PCI Express Capable Solutions
- Future-Proof 112 Gbps PAM4 Solutions
Samtec’s PCI Express product line includes connectors, cable assemblies, and PCIe CEM AICs that help drive fast, efficient, point-to-point communication.
