Samtec has made been making a significant investment in precision RF connector solutions over the past several years in an effort to respond to market drivers such as the global transition to 5G, autonomous vehicles, mobile user base growth, mobile video streaming and massive global connectivity.
In this (brief) video from IMS 2019, Steve McGeary, Samtec’s Director of RF Business Development and Product Management, discusses how our expansion into precision RF /Microwave and Millimeter wave products, combined with our strategy of becoming completely vertically integrated, allows us to better respond to increased demand for higher frequencies, increased bandwidths, and shrinking footprints.
Vertical Integration
Samtec’s Taiwan Design Center has has full machine capability to manufacture connector components in extremely tight tolerances, as well as connector and cable assembly capability.

The Cable Technology Center in Wilsonville, Oregon addresses the need for high performance low-loss cable.
The Arizona Design Center boasts a group of highly talented engineers with decades of connector design experience.
The Signal Integrity Group in Harrisburg PA, which was established 20+ years ago, is comprised of experts for launch optimization, simulations and test and measurement support.
Finally, in September of 2018, Samtec acquired Precision Connector Inc., which is known for its high frequency connector design and manufacturing capability primarily for cable ends up to 110 GHz.
Precision RF: New Products and Roadmap

Products currently available or on our roadmap include:
- 1.85 mm cable assemblies along with compression mount board connectors up to 65 GHz
- 2.40 mm cable assemblies and compression mount board connectors up to 50 GHz
- SMPM
- A 70 GHz BullsEye® system for high performance test applications
- Semi-rigid cable assemblies with 1.0 mm connectors to 110 GHz
For Example …

A recent example of how the elements of these vertical integration efforts work together to provide our customers with the highest quality RF performance can be seen in a recent dynamic stress test of Samtec Microwave cable. The demonstration shows the cable’s exceptional performance and signal integrity after being subjected to 10,000 high flex cycles.
