The Maker Faire train keeps right on rolling into the Motor City this weekend. For those that have never been to a Maker Faire, it can be best described as “part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new.“
Maker Faire Detroit – this weekend at the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation – promises to carry on the moniker of the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth. Hobbyists and tinkerers of all backgrounds will converge to show what they have “made”.
Samtec, as well as the Maker Mobile, will be attending the event. Samtec and Maker13 technical experts will provide demos of latest in manufacturing techniques. Additionally, attendees demo samples of Samtec connectors used by makers.
What is the Maker Mobile?
The Maker Mobile is a mobile maker space on wheels. The Maker Mobile team retrofitted a 32′ car trailer with modern manufacturing tools to inspire makers of all ages. The state-of-the-art equipment inside the trailer exemplifies clean and automated manufacturing processes.

The modular design of the Maker Mobile allows for flexibility of set-up. The most popular equipment typically showcased include two Epilog Helix 40W lasers, two Ultimaker 3D printers, a tabletop CNC router table by Shopbot, and a Vinyl Cutter.

Expansion Connector Accessory Kits for Makers
Tinkerers, hobbyists, students and enthusiasts form the backbone of the tech-influenced DIY community known as the Maker Movement. Aspiring product designers use various open-source electronic platforms as they develop interactive products ranging from robotics and drones to arts, crafts and musical instruments.

Rapid prototyping of innovative projects using open-source electronic platforms typically requires basic connectors and cable assemblies.
Samtec has developed expansion connector accessory kits for four of the most popular platforms:
- Arduino Uno R3 Expansion Connector Accessory Kit
- BeagleBone Black Expansion Connector Accessory Kit
- ARM mbed Application Board Expansion Connector Accessory Kit
- Raspberry Pi Expansion Connector Accessory Kit
