As a connector company, Samtec is involved with a wide variety of different Industry Standards and Protocols that are constantly growing.
From USB to PCI Express, Standards allow for our compliant interconnect solutions to be deployed in a diverse number of configurations and settings.
One of the largest Standards families Samtec participates with is VSO, VITA Standards Organization, better known as just VITA. VITA members have worked together to define and develop key computer bus, board, and system specifications such as VMEbus, PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC), VXS, VPX, FMC and many more.
Since VITA’s inception in 1984, nearly 100 working groups have been formed to develop specifications and standards important to designers of critical embedded systems around the world. Systems from medical imaging to space launch control, semiconductor processing to defense systems, have depended on products based on VITA Technologies.
Over the past few years, Samtec’s catalog of VITA Standard solutions has expanded. Beginning with XMC, Samtec has grown to offer FMC, FMC+, and VNX Standard interconnects. With this continued expansion, our VITA experience on the website needed a revamp.
VITA Gets Revamped
Our Digital Marketing team has produced 5 new web pages making up our new VITA Standards section of Samtec.com. The new pages include:
VITA Home Page
This page is designed as a landing page for all things VITA. As Samtec continues to develop additional embedded solutions that are VITA compliant, this page will continue to expand.
VITA 42 XMC
VITA 42 XMC is a widely deployed mezzanine Standard used in high-reliability computers implementing switched-fabric architectures. XMC combines PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) with serial fabric technology on proven mezzanine form-factors.
VITA 57.1 FMC
The FPGA Mezzanine Card (FMC) was developed and ratified by a consortium of FPGA vendors and end-user members of the VITA 57 working group.
FMC is an ANSI standard which defines a compact electro-mechanical expansion interface for a daughter card to an FPGA baseboard or other device with reconfigurable I/O capability.
VITA 57.4 FMC+
Building on FMC, FMC+ employs a larger connector from the SEARAY™ family of high-speed, high-density arrays. This High Serial Pin Connector (HSPC) has 560 pins arranged in a 14×40 array.
While new FMC+ cards can only plug into new FMC+ carriers due to their larger connectors, original FMC cards will also fit thanks to a customized polarization system providing true backward compatibility.
VITA 74 VNX
VITA 74 NanoX Small Form Factor defines both mechanical and electrical specifications to implement a small form factor system. The specification addresses the need for a standardized approach to small-scale systems to be used in a range of applications.
The specification encourages multiple vendors to supply components to be used in small systems at various levels, including modules, backplanes, enclosures and completed solutions. The goal is to allow vendor implementation flexibility at the same time as ensuring component interoperability.
All of these pages feature an updated GUI for more accurate information, revised matrices for improved parts search, and new contact information for better user support.
Future Updates
Within the coming months, several of our other Standards families will be receiving a similar upgrade. New pages will include:
