Error Free PCIe 6.0 Compliant Traffic
Liquid cooling, AI, network innovation, energy efficiency, CXL® and PCI Express® were many of the hot topics at SC24. Most of those topics were also represented at the Samtec booth, especially PCI Express.
One of our many live product demonstrations was a joint effort with our friends at VIAVI Solutions and Rambus which demonstrated error-free PCIe 6.0 compliant traffic.

In the video above, Samtec’s Matt Burns and VIAVI Solutions’ Sara Haber describe the demonstration and products, and review the excellent results.
A VIAVI PCIe 6.0 Protocol Analyzer and Exerciser runs traffic through a Samtec cable to a Rambus PCIe 6.0 endpoint.
The Samtec cable is our PCIEC-G5 cable, which is capable of running both 5.0 and 6.0 (64 GT/s) traffic.
Rambus’ controller technology is capable of PCIe 6.0 traffic. The PCI-SIG compliance test ran from the VIAVI emulating host, through the Samtec cable system, to the Rambus endpoint.

As mentioned above, the results were excellent. In FLIT mode — a special 6.0 configuration — we saw error-free PCIe 6.0 compliant traffic (no recovery), and it also passed all of the compliance tests in the demo.
Samtec PCI Express Products
Samtec offers both connector and cable solutions that meet PCI Express electrical and mechanical specifications.
- High-speed edge card sockets support one, four, eight and sixteen PCI Express® links and mate with PCI Express® cable assemblies.
- PCI Express-Over-FireFly™ copper and optical cable assemblies for low latency, power savings and guaranteed transmission; optical adaptor card available with PCIe® x16 edge card connector.
For increased design flexibility, additional solutions are available that meet PCI Express electrical specifications with potential cost savings, including mezzanine board-to-board solutions and signal/power routing flexibility.
