VITA 66 has been around for some years now. What goes into this standard continues to expand. VITA 66 is an evolution to increase your options inside the existing VITA 46 (VPX) market space. Samtec is pleased to announce the addition of our VITA 66 Landing Page.

VITA 66.0 is the base standard that defines the family of blind mate Fiber Optic interconnects for use with VPX backplanes and plug-in modules. The most relevant dot standards for Samtec are the 66.1 (MT Variant) and the 66.4 (Half MT Variant). These are where our FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ shines. (optical pun intended here).
An Evolution of VITA 46
At almost 20 years old VITA 46 was designed as an open standard for supporting high-speed, switched interconnect protocols. These designs are based on 3U and 6U IEEE1101 form factors in harsh environment applications. High speed at the time of release verses high speed now are very different. The multiple dot standards added under VITA 46 add protocols and increase speeds. When it came time to add mixed signaling options with optics the base standard 46 had to evolve to the 66 to prevent issues with intermatability.
Rugged Optics for VITA 66
Samtec’s FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ is your ideal fit for these applications. The ETMO varient is the Ruggedized Optical Transceiver that fits nicely inside any 3U or 6U configuration. The FireFly family ranges from 10 Gbps to 28 Gbps per lane as well as x4 to x12 designs. This will give you options on how you transition from the VITA 66 backplane to your midboard design.
If you need a higher level of reggedness or Rad Hard options Samtec’s recent acquisition of Ultra Communications will further expand your options.
