SEARAY™ is a family of high speed, high density connectors. SEARAY gives designers tons of design flexibility, much more than any other array product in the connector industry.
Design Flexibility
SEARAY is on a 1.27 mm X 1.27 mm grid. This is an open pin field grid array, which means we don’t have pins dedicated as signal or ground. Designers can specify some pins for single-ended signals, some can be routed as differential pairs, some ground, and some for power, all on the same connector.
This gives designers maximum grounding and routing flexibility. Designers get up to 500 I/0s for single-ended designs, or 125 differential pairs, if they use our recommended pin assignments.
It’s high speed. When routed as a single-ended system, SEARAY is rated up to 34 Gbps, at a 10 mm stack height.
Ubiquitous
SEARAY is used in a number of applications including telecom, datacom, computer and peripheral, industrial, test and measurement, medical, instrumentation, and military applications, to name a few.
SEARAY is available in vertical, right angle, coplanar or horizontal orientations. SEARAY connectors can also attach the SEAC family of high-speed, high-density array cable assemblies.
Rugged, High Speed Contacts
SEARAY features Samtec’s patented Edge Rate™ contact system. Edge Rate is a rugged contact that is designed for high speed, high bandwidth applications. The contacts are positioned in the plastic body to minimize broadside coupling and crosstalk – one of the reasons why they’re high speed.
Edge Rate™ contacts mate on the smooth milled surface of the contact. This allows for higher cycle life and superior electrical properties. This contact design also lowers insertion and extraction forces – an important consideration when designing-in high-pin-count arrays. And Edge Rate the contacts can be zippered when you’re unmating the connectors.
Solder Charge Technology
SEARAY™ utilizes solder charge technology to simplify IR reflow termination and improve solder joint reliability. The advantage of this technology, compared to standard BGA/solder ball attachment, is the interconnects are subject to extreme heat only once during assembly of the connector to the PCB (as opposed to twice with solder ball attach methods).
This becomes more relevant with the higher temperatures required for lead-free processing. SEARAY is currently available with tin-lead solder crimp as well a lead-free tin alloy solder charge which is ROHS compliant.
SEARAY is also available in a press fit termination and 85 ohm impedances.
A 0.80mm pitch SEARAY system gives two times the density of the standard 1.27 mm grid. That’s huge space savings — about 2X — on the PCB.
FMC, FMC+
The FMC+ and FMC connectors are Application Specific Product (ASP) versions of Samtec’s SEARAY system. These FMC connectors are available direct from Samtec and are scalable to high-performance applications as your hardware development effort demands.
