Samtec recently sponsored and attended the Xilinx Developer Forum (XDF) in Silicon Valley. XDF connects software developers and system designers to the deep expertise of Xilinx engineers, partners, and industry leaders.
During the event, Samtec showed two high-speed demonstrations. Both platforms marry Samtec interconnect solutions with Xilinx silicon. The XDF demos are featured in the following videos.
Samtec’s FQSFP-DD SI Evaluation Kit
As data rates increase, trace length on PCBs decrease. Samtec’s high-speed, flyover cable assemblies simplify PCB design. Also, they limit signal degradation in high data rate applications. The FQSFP-DD to AcceleRate FlyOver SI Evaluation Kit (REF-203424-X.XX-XX) provides system designers and SI engineers an easy-to-use solution for testing and evaluation.
This kit routes eight high-speed differential pairs through high-precision RF connectors, the FQSFP-DD to AcceleRate cable assembly and PCB-mount connectors. The kit delivers high-quality systems with a robust mechanical design.
In the video below, Samtec’s Jean-Remy Bonnefoy discusses key technical details about the Samtec platform. Additionally, he describes the performance of the Xilinx 56G GTM Transceiver test platform.

Samtec’s 28 Gbps FireFlyTM FMC+ Development Kit
Another cool system Samtec unveiled at XDF was the 448 Gbps throughput demonstration of FireFly with Xilinx FPGAs. It couples Samtec’s 28 Gbps FireFlyTM FMC+ Development Kit with the Xilinx Virtex® UltraScale+™ FPGA VCU118 Evaluation Kit.
The production-version platform highlights a low latency, high performance, onboard optical engine passing 448 Gbps. Equally important, it does not include FEC. Furthermore, the new solution fully complements the Xilinx GTY transceivers.
Samtec’s 28 Gbps FireFlyTM FMC+ Module provides up to 448 Gbps full-duplex bandwidth. This occurs over up to 16 channels from an FPGA/SoC to an industry-standard multi-mode fiber optic cable. Another important feature is the diversity of protocols supported. These include:
- Ethernet
- InfiniBandTM
- Fibre Channel
- Aurora

Typical applications include:
- Video
- Mil/Aero
- Embedded Computing
- Instrumentation
- HPC
- Data Center
In the video below, Samtec’s Matt Burns provides key technical details about the Samtec platform. In addition, he describes the performance of the Xilinx VCU118 development kit.
