The optical communications world will be centered in Dublin next week for ECOC Exhibition 2019. This is one of “the” events in the fiber optics world.

ECOC features over 6,000 attendees and 330 exhibitor from around the globe. The industry will focus on networking, sharing ideas, learning and developing new business leads.
Samtec and its partners will be demonstrating next-gen 56/112 Gbps PAM4 solutions in a variety of applications. As data rates get faster, Samtec’s Flyover® Technology routes signals over the PCB in high-performance copper and optical cable assemblies.
At ECOC, Samtec Flyover® Technology can be found in our partner booths: eSilicon, Credo and Inphi.
eSilicon and Samtec ECOC 2019 Demonstration
eSilicon and Samtec have co-developed system-level solutions that emulate next-generation data center architectures for typical 19-inch rack-mount applications.
In the first application, eSilicon will demonstrate its SerDes operation over two 67cm AcceleRate® Slim Body Cable Assemblies and a five-meter (16-foot) ExaMAX® Backplane Cable Assembly providing mid-board to backplane communications via a cabled backplane architecture from Samtec. This demonstration highlights eSilicon’s SerDes architecture’s flexibility in supporting independent data rates and protocols on each individual lane, e.g., 50G PAM4 Ethernet, 24G NRZ CPRI and proprietary protocols up to 58Gb/s.

In the second application, eSilicon will demonstrate rack-to-rack communications using ExaMAX® Backplane Connector paddle cards and a seven-meter (23-foot) ExaMAX® Backplane Cable Assembly. This demonstration shows the performance, robustness and extremely low power consumption of eSilicon’s 7nm 58G PAM4 and NRZ full-DSP long-reach SerDes in an extreme-use case featuring a total insertion loss of 45dB bump to bump.

Credo and Samtec ECOC 2019 Demonstration
Credo and Samtec have partnered to engineer the 56 Gbps PAM4 Active Product Demonstrator. The data-center emulation platform showcases Samtec’s comprehensive portfolio of high-performance interconnects.

The 56 Gbps PAM4 Active Product Demonstrator offers a complete system design based on Credo Semiconductor SERDES ICs that measure and display 56 Gbps PAM4 performance over 88 lanes. Key features of the demo include:
- PRBS-31 generated 56 Gbps PAM4 Data Rate
- Analyzes performance across all channels
- Bit Error
- Eye Height
- Eye Pattern
- Key products included
Please visit the Credo Meeting Room (Hall 1, Balcony, Room #20) for more details.
Inphi and Samtec ECOC 2019 Demonstration
112 Gbps PAM4 data rates are quickly becoming reality. While production silicon is not expected before 2021, test silicon from multiple vendors are popping up at events like ECOC.
In this demonstration, Samtec and Inpi will show 112 Gbps PAM4 data rates in a combination of the mid-board and backplane applications.
A full 112 Gbps PAM4 chip-to-chip channel routes from an Inphi transceiver test chip. It pass through the high-performance PCB to precision RF 2.92 mm cable assemblies. It then connects to a series of cables assembles featuring Samtec Flyover® Technology.
The cable assemblies include two 33cm NovaRay™ Extreme Density & Performance Socket Cable Assemblies and a one-meter ExaMAX® Backplane Cable Assembly.

After passing through the three cables, the signal returns to the Inphi transceiver test chip. Signal integrity analysis is displayed with BER and eye diagram data.
