What are Samtec’s most popular connector products? It’s more varied than most people think it would be. The list includes active optical cable assemblies, high-speed copper cable systems, extreme microminiature glass interposers and substrates, basic two-piece pin and socket strip connectors, and micro edge card connectors, among others.
Here’s the list, pretty much in order of sales:
ECUO: ECUO is a FireFly™ active optical cable assembly. It boasts the industry’s leading miniature footprint, enabling maximum signal density, and of course signal integrity over longer distances. That’s a good thing because designers are facing longer-reach applications, increasing bandwidths, and tighter spaces.
HDR: This is our line of high-speed cable assemblies that incorporates Samtec Eye Speed® Ultra-Low Skew Twinax cable and our high-speed, high-density connector systems. HDR consists of a full line of standard products, but the majority of our sales are modified or custom cable solutions. Applications include Flyover™, mid-board, front panel, back panel, RF, and optical solutions.
GCT (Glass Core Technology): Samtec’s Through-Glass Vias (TGVs) enable Glass Core Technology (i.e., glass interposers, smart glass substrates, and microstructured glass substrates). TGV-enabled glass substrates permit the integration of glass and metal into a single wafer, while interposers promote more efficient package interconnects and manufacturing cycle times. The hermetically sealed TGVs are manufactured from high-quality borosilicate glass, fused silica (aka quartz), and sapphire. Through the use of high-quality glass wafer material, combined with advanced interconnect technologies (e.g., Redistribution Layer), Samtec’s Glass Core Technology enables a one-of-a-kind packaging product.
SEAC: These are high-speed cable assemblies that utilize SEARAY™ high-density connector products. Like most Samtec high-speed cable solutions, designers love the variety of options for incredible flexibility.
FTSH, CLP: These are basic 1.27 mm pitch socket and terminal strips. They are a popular connector system because of the variety of options in the product line, including through-hole and SMT terminations, vertical and right-angle designs, and a variety of plating options, among others.
SEAM, SEAF: This is our popular SEARAY line, a high-density, high-speed, 1.27 mm grid array system. It’s popular because the open pin field gives designers tons of PCB routing and grounding flexibility.
TSM, SSM: These are basic 2.54 mm SMT terminal and socket strips. They are popular because they come in all shapes, sizes, and with all kinds of options.
TFM, SFM: Our popular Tiger Eye™ contact system that is ideal for rugged, high-cycle, micro-pitch applications. This is one of the first connector sets designed for SMT applications; it’s a quality product.
HSEC8: This is our most popular edge card connector.
ERM8, ERF8: The 8 stands for 0.80 mm pitch, and the ER stands for Edge Rate® interconnects, which are high-speed, rugged mezzanine connectors.
ARC6, ARF6: This is our AcceleRate® “Slim” high-speed, space-saving cable system. It is the industry’s slimmest cable assembly: a 7.6 mm width insulator (plastic body), that houses two rows of 8- or 16-pair pin configurations on a narrow 0.635 mm pitch.
The contacts are directly soldered to the cable achieving tighter tolerances. Direct attach technology also improves signal integrity by eliminating the transition board and its variability.
Other big-selling Samtec products include:
- LSHM: a 0.50 mm hermaphroditic terminal/socket system
- FFSD: a 1.27 mm pitch, low-profile, rugged IDC cable solution
- TSW/SSW: These are basic 2.54 mm through-hole terminal and socket strips; this product line oozes design flexibility
- QTH/QSH: These are Q Strip® products, high-speed mezzanine connectors in stack heights from 5 mm and up, with an integral ground plane for high-speed and/or power applications
