Samtec presented a proof-of-concept demonstration of our new waveguide technology at IMS 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia.
In this video, filmed at the show, Mike Dunne, Samtec’s Director of RF Business Development, gives us an update on the new technology and walks us through the demonstration. Although it’s still in development, the demo garnered plenty of attention, and piqued a lot imaginations.
With Vubiq and Analog Devices, this proof-of-concept demonstration shows our high-frequency micro waveguides technology.
Samtec’s micro waveguides are designed to transmit mm wave frequencies that provide lower loss, higher-frequencies, lower cost, and smaller size and weight than existing waveguide technology.
This V-band demonstration is running actual 10 Gbps Ethernet modulated traffic at 60 GHz through Samtec’s flexible waveguides, using Vubiq’s Haul Pass V10G product main board and Analog Devices HMC 6300 and 6301 chipset.

The cable construction allows a measure of flexibility in the set-up of the waveguide that differs from today’s metallic waveguides.
Again, waveguide technology is still in development, but it’s one of many new microwave and mm wave products and technologies available from Samtec. If you have questions about our waveguide technology, please contact us at RFGroup@Samtec.com.
IMS was a busy show for us. It was great to get out and see our customers and friends face-to-face for the first time in quite a while. At IMS, we presented:
- Our newest Precision RF – Microwave/Millimeter Wave products
- A live demonstration of Otava bleeding-edge beamformer technology, which incorporates Samtec 50 Ohm 2.40 mm compression mount jacks. This is in partnership with Rohdes and Schwarz, and Avnet.
- A live demonstration of a 70 GHz Bulls Eye® High-Performance Test System.
- Samtec’s launch and design services, helping you navigate the complex interface between a high-frequency, air dielectric coaxial connector and the PCB
