mmWave applications are all the rage. Why? Simply put, the 5G tidal wave is coming. Also, ADAS systems use 24 GHz for SRR applications and 77 GHz for LRR applications. Obviously, the world needs mmWave tech! Traditional mmWave technology spans the 30 - 300 GHz frequency range. Samtec defines mmWave technology as 18 - 110 GHz across our Precision RF portfolio of full cable assemblies, cable connectors, and board-level interconnects. High frequencies challenge designers like never before. … [Read more...]
Microwave and mmWave Technology for Emerging Applications Webinar
As consumers, wireless technology is often taken for granted. How difficult would everyday life be without it? Can I open my garage door today? How do I turn on my Smart TV? Where are my social networks? Most of our daily wireless connections - from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to cellular, SatNav and GPS - use carrier frequencies below ~6 GHz. Typical 50 ohm SMA connectors and cable assemblies (or similar) usually work in these types of applications. What about newer applications like 5G and … [Read more...]
Samtec Technologists Present at Virtual Flash Memory Summit
The technical trade show calendar seems busiest in Spring and Fall. This year, due to COVID, more events are virtual. More events have been rescheduled in the Fall this year. So it seems busier than usual. Take, as an example, Flash Memory Summit. FMS usually occurs in the summer during August. This year, it will be virtual from November 10-12, 2020. What is FMS? Each year at FMS, attendees hear keynotes and the latest technology updates, forecasts, and roadmaps for the NVM … [Read more...]
DC Block Capacitor Location: Does It Really Matter?
Samtec’s gEEk® spEEk webinars allow engineers the opportunity to interact with Samtec’s engineering leaders and SI experts on a variety of selected SI-related topics. Gustavo Blando, a Samtec Signal Integrity Architect, recently presented “DC Block Capacitor Location (Does It Matter)?” I spoke to Gustavo about his presentation and why he selected the topic, and the challenges in selecting the location of DC block capacitors. As you can probably imagine, it’s more complicated … [Read more...]
DesignCon Back to School Webinar: Current Distribution, Resistance & Inductance in Power Connectors
Our friends at DesignCon and Design News are launching the DesignCon Back-to-School webinar series. Experts from DesignCon's conference will share their insights from the electronics chip, board, and system industries, walking through use cases, defining various tools, and providing an understanding of why some designs look good on paper but fail once implemented. Samtec is presenting Current Distribution, Resistance & Inductance in Power Connectors. This paper won the DesignCon 2020 … [Read more...]
Samtec Dives In the Deep End with PICMG
Weird weather is one the things making 2020 memorable. As I look out my home office window (WFH - yet another 2020 "thing"!), it feels like mid-summer in late September. In some places like Key West or Palm Springs, that is normal. In Pennsylvania, it is not. My kids asked if we could go swimming. Umm, no. In any case, swimming on a hot day always accomplishes a purpose. Diving in to a pool, lake to ocean always is refreshing and relaxing. At least for me. In business, decisions … [Read more...]
Video Games Taught Me Skills
I am a child of the 80s. I grew up when the idea of home computing was very new. My first experience of any kind of computer was an Apple II that my Dad brought home from work. It was the only computer his company possessed, and every few weeks he would need to create a report that took nearly all weekend. I would wait patiently for Dad to finish because that’s when he would let me load the 5 ¼" floppy disc into the machine and play Galaxians. I loved that game. As … [Read more...]

In this blog, we will discuss a few of the additional offerings that Samtec has for standards. VITA 74 VNX VNX isn't new, but keep your eyes on it. … [Read more...]
Samtec Technologists to Attend AI Hardware Summit 2020
AI continues to shake up the tech industry. Nvidia's plans to buy UK-based Arm Holdings from Japan-based SoftBank illustrates that point. Nvidia GPU chipsets make-up the majority of data-center focused AI hardware applications. The Arm Holding licensee ecosystem offers a new territory for Nvidia to harness the power of AI. Just about every mobile device (smartphones, IoT, etc.) in the world uses compute engines with Arm technology. Guess where AI growth will be fastest on the near … [Read more...]
Channel Operating Margin: An In-Context Channel Compliance Method
Samtec Signal Integrity R&D Manager Brandon Gore recently presented "IEEE Channel Operating Margin For Channel Analysis" as part of our gEEk® spEEk webinars. gEEk spEEk allows engineers to interact with Samtec’s engineering leaders and SI experts on a variety of selected SI-related topics. I spoke to Brandon about the presentation and why he selected this topic, why a new channel compliance method was adopted, the fact that it is open-sourced, and its importance and value. … [Read more...]
