Data. Data. Data. The world is full of data.
As humans breathe, use smartphones, or have a meal, a digital trail of data is left behind. That data trail is highly lucrative for companies ranging from retail and high-tech to online advertising and social media. Why all the fuss on Big Data?
One source calls Big Data “extremely large data sets that may be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behavior and interactions.” In other words, companies analyze past data trails to predict future consumer behavior for financial gain.
Global Fortune 1000 companies typically leverage their enterprise-scale IT infrastructure and cloud services as platforms for Big Data computations. However, other options are available for small and medium sized businesses.
Big Data for the Little Guy

FPGA co-processing offers many advantages for Big Data computations compared to other solutions. FPGAs offer increased speeds and reduced power consumption. They are reconfigurable and programmable.
At the system-level, small and medium sized business can quickly adopt FPGA-based systems to fine tune their Big Data applications.
The Paltek “Data Brick” utilizes the latest FPGAs and high-performance interconnect solutions from Samtec on a platform enabling Big Data analysis for small and medium sized businesses.
FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™

The “Data Brick” comes with two pairs of the FireFly™ connector system. This gives users the flexibility of using micro footprint optical and copper interconnects interchangeably with the same connector system.
The FireFly™ options on the “Data Brick” include both ECUE and ECUO options. The ECUE options are targeted at 28Gbps speeds over short lengths while the ECUO options target 14 Gbps speeds over longer lengths.
More information on the FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ is available in the FireFly™ Application Design Guide and at www.samtec.com/firefly.
VITA 57.1 FMC Connectors
The “Data Brick” also supplies with two VITA 57.1 HPC FMC connectors. This option enables “Data Brick” users to quickly prototype their end-system using industry-standard FMC modules from a variety of solution providers

12G-SDI BNC Edge Mount Connectors

The last Samtec options featured on the Paltek “Data Brick” platform are 12G-SDI BNC edge mount connectors from the BNC7T-EM family.
In addition to Big Data analysis, the Paltek “Data Brick” also supports UHDTV video processing. Daughter cards allow up to eight 12G-SDI videos streams into and out of the “Data Brick” FPGA.
