Samtec and Amphenol® Aerospace recently announced a partnership to incorporate Samtec’s FireFly™ optical cable platform with Amphenol® Aerospace’s bulkhead interconnects for rugged optic solutions. Click here to read the official press release.
Samtec’s FireFly™ is a mid-board cable and optical interconnect system. FireFly™ is incredibly dense, and it enables chip-to-chip, board-to-board, and system-to-board connectivity using the same connector system for both copper and optical applications.
This partnership with Amphenol® Aerospace is great because designers frequently request rugged bulkhead solutions (38999, IP67, IP68, etc.) to be paired with FireFly™. Or, as the press release says, combining FireFly™ with Amphenol Aerospace’s D38999 with embedded 12, 24, and 48 channel MT components “is a great combination to support both company’s customers.”
This combination becomes even more pertinent with our soon-to-be-released Extended Temperature FireFly™. This new FireFly™, the ETUO Series, operates from -40ᵒ C to +85ᵒ C at 10 Gbps per channel.
