NAB is back and in-person, and Samtec is back at NAB. It’s difficult to describe everything at the NAB Show (National Association of Broadcasters). I’ll attempt to summarize it by saying that NAB is a monumental explosion of the latest broadcast products, solutions, equipment, and technologies.
Samtec’s extensive portfolio of high-performance interconnector solutions are ideal for supporting resolution, frame rate, density and latency demands of the broadcast video market. Interconnect solutions include 12G-SDI connectors and cable assemblies, high-speed board-to-board and edge card, high-speed cable, high-density power, and flexible board stacking.
Advanced system-level design services are also available. Services include: RF Launch Optimization, 75 Ohm signal integrity support, modeling, simulation, measurement verification and even providing high-density alternatives to typical RF solutions.
Largest Variety Of 12G-SDI Solutions
First, Samtec offers the largest variety of 12G-SDI solutions on the market. The products come in a variety of styles and sizes, including BNC, High-Density BNC, and DIN 1.0/2.3 interconnects. For example, last year we introduced our new BNC7T product (-BM1D & -BM2D) options. Samtec modified the weight of this 75 Ω, low-profile, right-angle, mixed technology bulkhead jack BNC connector to keep it balanced during automated placement, so it does not require a fixture. The top surface area was also increased for a machine vacuum seal, making the use of industry standard pick-and-place machines possible.
This year, we’re happy to announce the release of a High-Density BNC product also designed for high-volume, automated pick-and-place manufacturing (HDBNC, -BM1D & -BM2D options). It’s an enhanced design, exclusive to Samtec, with return loss measurements that surpass minimum SMPTE 2082 12G-SDI requirements by at least -10 dB from 0-12 GHz.

Samtec offers unmatched service in PCB launch optimization. Custom launch design services assure the best possible performance of our RF PCB connectors when terminated to our customers’ specific PCB stack and construction. The specific PCB stack dimensions and all materials utilized in the construction of the PCB, including all prepreg and core materials used, the specific weave types of each, and any solder masks, etc., are needed in order to perform these services.
