Chris Shelly, Samtec’s RF/SI Modeling Engineer, walks us through another 12G SDI product demonstration from NAB 2017.
This demonstration showcases the Samtec BNC Edge Mount connector used in the Fidus® Gearbox+™ and the Phabrix® QX UHDTV 12G SDI generator/analyzer. This demonstration not only showcases the signal processing capabilities of both of these products, it also highlights the transmission of those signals through several other Samtec 75 ohm PCB connectors.
Chris walks us through the demo where the Phabrix QX is generating a quad 3G output, which is then converted into a single 12G SDI signal by the Fidus Gearbox. This output is then routed back into the Phabrix QX for analysis. We get a good look at the resulting eye pattern for this signal, the test pattern being generated, and the test pattern being received.
To emphasize the performance of the HDBNC, DIN7A, and BNC7T series of products, Chris then routes the 12G SDI signal through a daisy chain of 10 additional connector pairs, including six right angle connector pairs, two pairs from each of these series. As expected there is some drop in the peak voltage for the eye pattern as well as some increased jitter, but the received test pattern is shown to be unaffected.
