In August we moved several huge releases live to Samtec.com. We released a brand new way to build optical cables online, as well as a brand new checkout experience, and a small release of a new order management tool in My Samtec.
Here were the major updates to Samtec.com for August 2022.
Build Optical Cables Online
Samtec users have been able to build a variety of different cable products online through various software applications we’ve released over the years, but until now, we never had a solution to build Active Optics cables on Samtec.com.
With the release of our new Active Optics Solutionator®, users can now build an Active Optics cable online from beginning to end in under a minute.
By answering just a single question (or more if desired), users can see a list of qualifying Samtec optical products that fit.

New Checkout Experience
If you’ve been paying attention to the Coming Soon section in our most recent web updates, you might have noticed we have been working on an upgraded Checkout system for the website for the last several months. We’re happy to announce that this application is now accepting orders in production.
As I write this, it’s processing about 90% of our orders and is the default checkout option on the website. You can read more about in this recent post. Note that some of the stats are a couple of weeks old in that article, but the features are still accurate.
The Return of Order Management (Phase 1)
In 2019 before COVID turned the supply chains of the world upside down, we had a small experimental feature on the website to allow users to request schedule changes to orders online.
This feature had to be removed due to the disruptions that COVID caused, however with the world returning to a more normal state, we’re now re-launching this feature on the website. It has been built on an entirely new back-end that is set up to handle more volume, and is currently only available to a very small number of users on the website.
Within the next several weeks as I write this post, we’ll be opening up this feature to most distributor and OEM users of the website. Once we do that, we’ll write a more in-depth post on how to use it.
