
If you’ve been paying attention to the Coming Soon section in our most recent web updates, you might have noticed we have been working on an upgraded Checkout system for the website for the last several months. We’re happy to announce that this application is now accepting orders in production in a Beta state.
As I write this, it’s processing about 10% of our orders. We’ll be incrementally moving this closer to being the default checkout option in the near future.
This new and upgraded system greatly simplifies the user flow and modernizes the process to be more consistent with eCommerce UX found across the Internet. It also replaces the software that was originally built over 10 years ago.
Additionally, it runs in the cloud and processes all information through new API connections versus older SQL-based technology. It’s a major upgrade in terms of not only experience but the architecture and code which drives it. It also has a completely separate code base so it’s extremely easy and fast to update as needed.
This checkout also brings full mobile capabilities with it, allowing users to go from our homepage all the way down to the checkout completely on their mobile phones. This is something that has never been done on Samtec.com and is rare to find with anyone else in our industry as well.
Over the next month, as we iron out some bugs, this application will become the default option when checking out. The previous checkout will still be available as a backup, but will eventually be decommissioned.

To use the new checkout, just click the “Try our new Checkout” button in the Cart when you are ready to make your purchase. Eventually, this will be the default option and you’ll see this button change to “Use the old checkout”. By the end of Q3, you’ll see it go away entirely as we transition away from the old technology.
