Samtec understands that different conditions require a varying set of requirements. It is because of this that Samtec offers three levels of products for automotive applications.
Commercial Off-The-Shelf
A Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) part is going to offer the greatest amount of flexibility and the shortest lead-time of the three offerings. A COTS part is controlled by Samtec’s print and is manufactured under ISO-9001 quality standards.
Because of this, Samtec can offer short lead times at volume, and Sudden Samples in 24 hours to your desk (in many cases). For those needing to get to market quickly, this is your best option.
A-Series for Automotive
Moving on from COTS, Samtec also offers the A-Series products that move you one step closer to a full automotive product. A-Series products can be made for many of Samtec’s COTS series with a few additional features.
Among these features are being certified to IATF 16949 requirements to support up to Level 3 PPAP requirements, will be manufactured at a controlled IATF facility, and will be registered in the International Material Data System (IMDS).
A-Series products are similar to Samtec’s COTS products in that they are built to Samtec’s drawings and standards, and will also offer a short lead time at volume.
ACD-Series for Customized Automotive Products
ACD-Series products leave the world of COTS far behind and specifically focus on a customer that must have a fully controlled automotive product. While an ACD-Series product might look similar to a COTS product, this series provides the full package (paperwork included) of a typical automotive product.
The features for an ACD-Series include being certified to IATF 16949 to support all agreed upon customer specific requirements, are built in a controlled IATF facility where the full PPAP is performed, is registered in the International Material Data System (IMDS), and vendor managed inventory options are available at volume.
