You can do a lot in three minutes. From counting to 180 to making toast, the possibilities are endless. However, our good friend Steve Leibson at Xilinx, encourages you to use your three minutes to take a look at our new video featuring Samtec’s FQSFP cable on Xilinx VCU118 FPGA. We couldn’t agree more.
28Gbps FireFly Loopback in Action
Steve goes on to state in his blog:
“Samtec recently posted a 3-minute video demonstrating its FireFly Micro Flyover Cable Assembly (the Twinax copper version) operating at 28Gbps per channel, error-free, over a total of 36 inches of cable. That one sentence describes the FireFly system’s advantage; it can carry high-speed data over longer distances using less power with no bit errors. That’s all in the video including this lovely, open eye diagram from the Xilinx LogiCORE IBERT IP core and software.
The demo uses a Xilinx VCU118 Eval Kit based on a Virtex UltraScale+ XCVU9P FPGA. Four SerDes transceivers on the FPGA operate at 28Gbps in this demo and directly drive the FireFly Twinax cables and received the looped-back data on a SamTec FireFly connector located adjacent to the UltraScale+ FPGA on the VCU118 Eval Kit. (The maximum transfer rate for the Virtex UltraScale+ GTY transceivers is 32.75Gbps and the Virtex UltraScale+ XCVU9P FPGA has 120 of those transceivers.)”
