With our last web update, we brought you several new additions to our on-site search, a new Microelectronics web experience, and our new 2017 product overview guide.
In September, the updates to search came to a close (for now), we’ve added a few new content pages, and we began work on several architecure upgrades to increase the performance of Samtec.com. These will pave the way for our next set of applications coming in 2018 and beyond.
Here is the summary of our major web updates for September 2017.
Full Upgrade to Angular 4
You may have noticed that some of our applications such as Solutionator and Search, as well as the website itself, are much more snappy lately.
In September, we rolled out a full upgrade to Angular 4, Google’s newest release of their increasingly popular javascript framework that is quickly becoming the standard for interactive web-based applications.
With this upgrade, we were able to reduce the size of the resources being delivered to the web browser by nearly 3 MB, which is A LOT in the web world. This resulted in a 4-6 second load time decrease for Solutionator specifically, and the user interactions being much more swift.
Additionally we gained some compression features and a reduction in size of our many of our global website elements, which also contributed to an overall speed increase of Samtec.com.
Angular is quickly developing as it gains popularity. We’ll continue to keep up with its latest enhancements to bring you the best experience we can.
A New Experience for the VITA42 Standard
The VITA 42 XMC Standard (Express Mezzanine Card) is directly focused on meeting the requirements of high-performance systems in a rugged environment. VITA 42 is a widely deployed mezzanine Standard used in high-reliability computers implementing switched-fabric architectures. XMC combines PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) with serial fabric technology on proven mezzanine form-factors.
Samtec’s SamArray® connector set was specified throughout the Standard. The YFS/YFW Series SamArray® system provides 114 pins in a 6 x 19 configuration (equating to 10 differential pairs in each direction), a 10mm stack height, and a 3.125 Gbps performance rating. Testing confirms that the SamArray® connector set can perform up to 10 Gbps allowing for even faster speeds in the future.
While these offerings did satisfy the Standard for a time, higher speeds and additional mating options continued to be requested. As a result, Samtec has released an expanded line of interconnect solutions to further the VITA 42 Standard.
All of Samtec’s current XMC offerings have been revised with updated technical documentation including 3D models, updated prints, and PADS files. We’ve created a brand new web experience with the release of these updates.

New Product Page for Edge Rate® Slim
Edge Rate® Slim is a slim body, low profile single row connector strip designed for high-speed performance. Key features include:
- Slim 2.5 mm body width
- 56 Gbps PAM4 performance

- Up to 120 total positions
- J lead for ease of processing

New Product Page for Ultra Micro Power Connector Systems
Our new Ultra Micro Power Connector Systems are 2.00 mm pitch power blade interconnects designed for staging a combination power and signal/ground solution. Key features include:
- Design flexibility as a power-only system or a two-piece system for power/signal applications
- Use with Samtec’s high-speed connector systems for a power/signal solution
- 5 mm to 20 mm stack heights
- Up to 15 A per blade
- 2 – 5 power blades on a 2.00 mm pitch
