New Optics Guide & World Record Rainbows

According to Guinness World Records, the longest lasting rainbow observation was 8 hours and 58 minutes on November 30, 2017. It was seen from the Chinese Culture University campus in Taiwan, which is located on a mountainside with several elevated areas allowing for continuous observation of the rainbow as its angle changed with the sun’s movement.
While rainbows are an optical illusion, the science is fascinating. The spectrum of light, water, refraction, reflection and angles – all perfectly align to show us the colors of the rainbow.

MID-BOARD OPTICAL TRANSCEIVER SOLUTIONS

Samtec’s mid-board optical transceivers include:
- FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ for embedded, rugged and PCIe®-Over-Fiber applications with up to 28 Gbps per lane (32 Gbps in development)
- Halo™ next gen optical systems for embedded applications demanding 56/112 Gbps PAM4 performance
- FireHawk™ optical systems for space applications to withstand vibrations and radiation with up to 10 Gbps per lane



FireFly™ and Halo™ optical cable assemblies feature the interchangeability of copper and optical using the same micro connector respectively. Optical cable for greater distances, or copper for cost optimization. Additionally, these solutions utilize Flyover® technology, which takes the data connection “off board” for up to 28 Gbps per lane with a path to 112 Gbps PAM4.
For optimal thermal control, a variety of integrated heat sinks or through-the-board cooling are available. This feature accommodates harsh environments and wide temperature ranges in industrial, military and aerospace industries. For space and satellite applications, the design of FireHawk™ optical assemblies can withstand vibrations and radiation with optimal SWaP.
