This month we updated the user experience of our on-site search, completed the final major upgrades to our product pages (for now), released a couple of new content pages, and continued with our performance updates across the static areas of the website.
Here are the major updates to Samtec.com for May 2022.
Several Search UX Upgrades

If you need a connector and you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, where on the Internet do you go first? You go to some sort of search engine, whether it be Google, Octopart, Digikey, or an on-site search like the one on Samtec.com. We’ve been working on several upgrades to our search experience in the last year.
The first was to create an on-site part number search by partnering with Octopart. After that, we released a few incremental updates to improve its performance and mobile compatibility.
With this update, we’re bringing you a few more nice user experience (UX) upgrades.

New VITA VNX+ Industry Standards Page

As embedded communities move to smaller platforms with higher-density processors, the requirement to build smaller systems becomes ever more critical. Recently, COTS solutions, as opposed to custom designs, have minimized the effort required to upgrade systems using common hardware, communications, and control interfaces.
This approach along with conformance to MOSA standards like ANSI/VITA, SOSA, HOST, and other consortia make the goal of building smaller and faster possible. VNX+ is being designed and implemented with all these requirements in mind.
We’ll have more on this growing industry standard in an upcoming blog post later this month.

Series Mates Block Upgrade in Product Pages

For years, we have presented our series mates in a simple dropdown box with text selections. This worked well enough, but wasn’t very “eComm-centric”. In an effort to present a more graphical approach to finding series mates, we updated this section of our product pages to a graphical approach from the start.
Once users click on the Mates tab, or navigate to it using a link, they’ll be presented with series images, links, and descriptions all in one block, rather than having to interact with a dropdown box first. This makes choosing a mate faster and easier.
Take a look at an example of this on our SEAF series page.
Direct Mate Suggestions on Board Stacking Products

One of the most difficult things about our industry and the products we sell is that most often our customers need them in mated sets, or two products that fit together. The issue with that is there are limitless combinations of products that will mate together.
With this update to the website, we’re a step closer to solving that problem for a good portion of our board stacking products. We’ve made use of our mated set data that we use in our Solutionator tools to present users with pre-selected mated sets where appropriate.
For example, if a user is on this TMM product page, they’ll see a small callout area above the pricing grid that says “View Mating Products” with a link to the mates. Once the user clicks that, they’ll see the mate(s) our product engineers have chosen.
For qualifying products, this makes it extremely easy to get a mated set.
Additionals Pages Loading Directly From the Azure CDN

We’re now loading several more of our pages directly from Azure CDN. We added around 50 pages this month, speeding them up greatly and reducing our code size for the other areas of the website.
