In May we rolled out several updates to our content to support the growing virtual needs of our customers. We also launched a brand new version of our Picture Search tool, which we’ll detail in a separate post, updated our electrical model capacity and released several more minor content updates.
Here are the major updates to Samtec.com for May of 2020.
User Experience (UX) Updates to All 3D Explorers
A few weeks back, we announced the release of several 3D interactive product explorers, which allow users to interact with a mated set sample of our products in a web-based 3D environment. Users can mate and unmate, zoom in and out, and rotate these 360 degrees in all directions.
We’ve updated these with a new experience, including a new skin, new features, and a more fluid experience.
You can see each one on it’s respective family page on Samtec.com. Use the links below to check out the udpated version.
- SEARAY™ High-Density Arrays
- Bulls Eye® Testing Systems
- Flyover® QSFP Cable Systems
- ExaMAX® Backplane Systems
- AcceleRate® Direct Attach Cables
- NovaRay® 112 Gbps PAM4 Arrays
Updates to the mPOWER and AcceleRate HD Family Pages
In addition to the 3D explorers listed above, we also updated the mPOWER and AcceleRate HD family pages with 3D interactive explorers as well. You can view each of these on the product family pages below.
Picture Search Version 3 Initial Launch
As I write this post, our newest version of Picture Search, an application we have been running for about 7 years now, was just released the previous week. This tool is designed to help users who have an image in their head of what they need but aren’t exactly sure how to get to it with keywords, parametric filtering, or more traditional navigation.
It is the highlight reel of the major sellers of Samtec products, and should cover a large majority of what people are looking for. From the final page of Picture Search, a user can then configure their product to their liking with our award-winning configurator tool.
Our previous versions of Picture Search have been very popular with our web users. This one will be no different and boasts several major upgrades. These upgrades include:
- Standalone navigation
- Deep linkable URLs
- Mobile support
- Global CDN support
- And more
You can dig into each path here. Right now we have paths available for everything but RF, which we’ll be releasing in an upcoming Phase 2 release.
We’ll have a more detailed blog post coming out soon with additional information. Keep an eye out for that.
A Lot More Electrical Models
We recently updated the Eletrical and Mechanical Models block of our Technical Specifications page to pull in far more models based on the part number the user is viewing. You’ll see these covering a large portion of our products now, which is still growing every day with our partnership with SnapEDA.
These models are available in several formats and can be accessed without a login or email address. You can see an example by clicking the image below.
New Severe Environment Testing Video
Severe Environment Testing (SET) is a Samtec initiative to test certain products beyond typical industry standards and specifications, many of which are common requirements for harsh environment applications/industries.
Driven by demands for high functioning commercial standard interconnects, SET has proven beneficial in providing performance confidence, not only for rugged Mil/Aero industries and applications but also for Automotive, Industrial and Medical applications.
We’ve just added a new video that helps explain these procedures. Check it out on the Severe Environment Testing page.
