It is here, it is happening, we are physically setting up DesignCon 2021 Demo’s NOW! (if you are reading this between August 10th through 19th 2021) With changes constantly happening with shows and travel we are excited to be participating physically at the show.
If you are not traveling to the show this year don’t worry we will give you a sneak peek at the 2021 Demos here. You can also check out our full involvement on our DesignCon landing page HERE.
Why Demos and What to Expect?
Showing individual connector samples and parts soldered to boards just doesn’t always have the same effect as when you can hook them up to some of the newest silicon out there. We have spent the past year working with our partners to not just show the connectors, but show what the connectors can really do! In our booth this year you will see amazing results at 112 Gbps PAM4 and PCIe 6.0 speeds. Some demos show just one or two connectors while others show up to 8 interfaces across a few meters of channel length. Each demo will display real-time; signal eye heights, bit error, and eye patterns.
Pay attention to the results noted for each and the loss shown. It is also important also to note that you will not see any forward error correction (FEC) in the bit error rate (BER) displayed. On a few of the demos, we had to build in some additional trace length and loss because they just looked too good!

The 2021 Demos
112 Gbps PAM4 NOVARAY® I/O CABLE ASSEMBLY
Samtec’s family of NovaRay® interconnect solutions continues to expand while taking the signal farther than before. The new fully shielded differential pair NovaRay® I/O solution contributes to the industry-leading 4.0 Tbps aggregate data rate. In this demo, Alphawave’s AlphaCORETM silicon generates 112 Gbps PAM4 PRBS31 data. The total signal path equals 136″ [3.5 m] with 8 interconnect transitions. The overall channel loss is measured at -35.7 dB @ 28 GHz.

V-BAND / 60 GHz FLEXIBLE WAVEGUIDE TECHNOLOGY
This proof-of-concept V-band demonstration is running 60 GHz modulated traffic at 10 Gbps through Samtec’s flexible Micro Waveguide. This technology demonstration features the Analog Devices HMC6300/6301 chipset and the Vubiq Networks V10 G product mainboard.
64 Gbps PAM4 (PCIe® 6.0) GEN-Z™ HSEC6
This demo features Samtec’s HSEC6-DV SI Evaluation Kit. The HSEC6 series connector is mechanically compliant to the Gen-Z™ and SFF-TA-1002 specifications. The Synopsys® test silicon generates 64 Gbps PAM4 (PCIe® 6.0) data. The overall channel loss is measured at -28 dB @16 GHz. This is one of the demos where additional trace length and loss have been designed into the Synopsys® board for the display.
112 Gbps PAM4 NOVARAY® CABLE ASSEMBLIES
The innovative design of NovaRay® combines extreme density and extreme performance, which is critical as system sizes decrease and speeds increase. This inside-the-box, Flyover® Technology demonstration features both Precision RF 70 GHz Bulls Eye® and NovaRay® cable assembly. The Xilinx Versal™ Premium Series silicon generates 112 Gbps PAM4 PRBS31 data. The total signal path length equals 68″ [1.7 m] with 6 interconnect transitions. The overall channel insertion loss is measured at -40 db @ 28 GHz.

112 Gbps PAM4 ACCELERATE® HP
This demo features Samtec’s AcceleRate® HP High-Performance Array Evaluation Kit. The Synopsys® 112G PAM4 transceiver test chip creates the signal for evaluation. The overall channel loss is measured at -32.5 dB @ 28 GHz*. Signal eye heights, bit error, and eye patterns are displayed in real-time. This is another demo where additional trace length and loss have been designed into the Synopsys® board for the display. This demo also shows a new version of Samtec’s AcceleRate® HP connector with a Right Angle orientation that can provide extreme density in a perpendicular mating orientation.
