As consumers, we have all become used to certain things when it comes to shopping online. While B2B websites do serve a different purpose, the fact is that we are all consumers. We are all used to certain features when we’re trying to find the best product we can to fit our needs.
Recently we made a few upgrades to our Shopping Cart on Samtec.com to continue building out the eCommerce features on the website and to make sure our users have certain features they are used to when shopping online. Find Similar Parts in Your Cart
Because of the incredible variety and flexibility that Samtec offers made possible by our manufacturing process, many of our parts are very similar, but these small variations can make a big difference in what is ordered.
We’ve been running a feature on our Part Number pages for several months which allows users to click a tab and see similar products to the one they are viewing. Differences in products might be things like plating, packaging, cable length, and others. It’s also easy to see if a part is available in our Reserve program, which contains over 200,000 stocked part numbers that are guaranteed to ship in a day.
We’ve now pulled this same information into the Cart for users to take advantage of there as well. On the Cart page, just click the “View Similar Parts” link that shows up under each line and you’ll see a simple modal pop up with all of the products that match.
From there, you can click the links and pull up those product pages to see if this product might be a better fit. If you have similar parts available, you’ll see them in the Cart page on Samtec.com – https://www.samtec.com/cart
View Recommended Products in the Cart
Similar to the recent update to add recommendations to our product pages a few months ago, we have recently added this feature to the Cart as well. If you have a product in your Cart that matches our machine-learned dataset, you’ll get those product recommendations in the bottom portion of your cart as well, directly under your saved parts.
This data is created using an algorithm that processes 10+ years of order history to determine what people are most likely to order together. Those products are then served up in this portion of the Cart page. This should feel very familiar, as it’s a feature used by most large eCommerce sites, such as Amazon.com and more.
Order Batches of Your Saved Projects
Lastly, we released a “Batch Add” button to our project list feature. This will allow you to take all of the items in your project list and move them to your cart in multiples of your batch size.
For example, if I have 4 of one product and 5 of another, and I want to add 5 “batches”, this tool would then add 20 and 25 of each part to my cart. What this does is allows users to keep the parts they need in a project list, and then add all of those to their cart in multiples very quickly, rather than adding them all individually each time.
This is a nice time-saving feature when you need more parts of things you’ve got saved in your project lists. Those projects are always saved for future use as well.
