Over the past few years, Samtec has been helping with the development of the VNX+ standard. We are one of many contributing members of the VITA community working on this standard. The alliance is now at a critical mass where the content and evolution of the standard is ready for you! Through this blog, we will reference a few prior articles and publications to deeper explain the features of VNX+. We will also answer a few questions about how you can get involved and benefit being from the VNX+ Marketing Alliance. If any of these acronyms or standards references are foriegn to you, hang tight! I will try to connect everything below; because that is what Samtec does- we make things to connect other things!
What is VNX+?
VNX+ is VITA 90. VITA 90 is an evolution of VITA 74. In turn, VITA 74 is a solution for Smaller Form Factor applications based on OPEN VPX or VITA 65 designed initially for 3U and 6U system architectures. Clear as mud? (This is a saying in the States when something is NOT clear and may need some explaining.)
VITA’s mission is to promote and develop open technology for critical embedded computing. Everything mentioned in the previous paragraph is a standard that was developed under VITA. Every few years they expand some of the standards and create new ones.
The “N” in VNX+ is for a Nano architecture, taking the 3U and 6U size and functionality in to a module that is almost one third of the volume of a traditional 3U plug in card. With the inherent ruggedness of these standards, the Military and Aerospace industries are some of the biggest users. This standard is ideal for any industry application where size, weight, power, and cost for embedded computing is a concern.
How do I become part of the VNX+ Marketing Alliance?
First you must be a VITA member. You can learn about how to join on their website. Your company may already be a member. If so, registering becomes much easier.
