To round out 2021, we released a new industry standard page, rolled out a few mobile upgrades, upgraded our APIs to the latest version, and pushed a new e-commerce feature live on our product pages.
Here are the major updates to Samtec.com for December 2021.
New VITA 88 XMC+ Standards Page

We just released a new page detailing our support for the VITA 88 XMC+ industry standard.
Based on XMC, VITA 88.0 XMC+ defines an alternative connector from the same family used in FMC/FMC+. While not intermateable with VITA 42.0 connectors, the VITA 88.0 connector is designed to be backward compatible with VITA 42.0 electrical footprints. This allows designers to improve existing VITA 42.0 and/or VITA 61.0 designs by swapping connectors.
Next-generation XMC+ designs utilize an updated solder footprint and blade/beam style contact system. The result is superior SI supporting PCIe® 5.0 (32 GT/s) and 100 GbE operation, and improved mechanical performance and durability. All of this is achievable at stacks up to 18 mm.
Take a look at this new content page here, and how Samtec supports this standard.

Mobile Upgrades to Product Tech Specs Pages

Since 2020 catapulted much of the professional world to working remotely, our mobile traffic has seen a huge increase. What used to be just a tiny fraction of traffic now makes up nearly 20% of our daily usage.
We’ve always focused on mobile optimization because we knew this was coming, but now we’re putting an even larger emphasis on it.
We’ve updated the Series and Part Number Tech Specs pages with several new mobile optimizations, including:
- A new mobile-friendly menu
- Mobile-friendly breadcrumbs
- Mobile-friendly call-to-action buttons
- Mobile-optimized content blocks, tables, and links
- A mobile-optimized pricing, lead-time, similar parts, and packaging grid
- An easier way to get to the Specs Kit to download your resources at a later time
This trend will only continue, so while we develop new experiences, we’ll continue to focus on the mobile aspect as well. We’ve also made a few mobile updates to our Profile Management area and will have a fully mobile-optimized checkout system coming in 2022.
API Performance Upgrades

The Samtec.com website runs close to a dozen APIs to power all of the data it gathers from various systems across the global Samtec network. We took some time in December to upgrade all of these to the latest version of .NET 6.0, which boasts increased efficiency and performance.
While this upgrade was marginal compared to some previous major versions, users should still notice a slight performance and stability increase.
Recommended Products Phase 1

Also new to our Part Number Tech Specs page (or PDP page) is a section that will show the user the products that customers also purchased alongside the one they are viewing.
This data comes from a machine learning algorithm that we ran for the past 10 years of order history. The parts that you see in this area are highly likely to be direct mates or otherwise complementary products.
This is a phase 1 rollout of this feature. You’ll likely see updates to it in the future as well as seeing it in more places throughout the website.
We’ll have more about this feature upcoming in a future blog post.
For an example, go here and scroll down to the “Customers Also Purchased” block.
