Samtec.com is constantly evolving as the world changes. Each month we do a post for what was updated the previous month. We thought it might be fun to show you a crystal ball preview into some of the larger changes you’ll be seeing in the next few months.
Shopping Cart Upgrade

Currently, the shopping cart on Samec.com is about 8 years old. It still works just fine, but the back-end technology and code are getting outdated and more difficult to maintain with the rest of our systems. We also have several ideas on how to improve this experience throughout the website, so we decided it was time for an upgrade.
We are about 2/3 of the way through a complete “from-scratch” rebuild of the Samtec.com Cart. This is not just a redesign, but a complete user-experience upgrade throughout the entire website of how parts are added and managed. Users will now be able to add Samtec parts from anywhere a full and valid part number exists on the website, rather than just inside the Cart as it is currently.
Additionally, the new Cart features will be fully functional on mobile devices, allowing a full end-to-end e-commerce experience on Samtec.com, from the homepage, all the way down to the purchase.
We don’t have a set rollout date for this yet, but we should see it sometime in the spring of 2020. Stay tuned!
Order Management Capabilities

We’re currently allowing a small number of users on Samtec.com to manage certain features of orders. The first feature of this project is ship dates. We are allowing pull-ins, push-outs, and ASAP ship date requests to be done online, automatically, without the need to contact customer service.
This is a strong win/win for high volume customers, as well as our own internal associates. We’ll be rolling this out to a larger number of users in the coming months.
Picture Search Version 3

Our current Picture Search (this link will eventually be redirected to the new one) is one of our most popular applications. This allows users to visually begin the design process by selecting their needs from a variety of high-resolution product images.
The newest version of Picture Search addresses a few shortcomings of the current version, such as the ability to make changes quickly, performance considerations with an architecture upgrade, easy extendability, and the ability to link deeply into a section of the products.
This is a ground-up rebuild of the current application on new and simplified technology. We expect to roll out the initial version sometime in the spring or summer and keep this application on Samtec.com for a long time to come.
