NAB is back and in-person, and Samtec is back at NAB. It's difficult to describe everything at the NAB Show (National Association of Broadcasters). I'll attempt to summarize it by saying that NAB is a monumental explosion of the latest broadcast products, solutions, equipment, and technologies. Samtec’s extensive portfolio of high-performance interconnector solutions are ideal for supporting resolution, frame rate, density and latency demands of the broadcast video market. Interconnect … [Read more...]
Six New 112 G Connector Systems Is The Coolest Demo At DesignCon (IMHO)
This live demonstration from DesignCon 2022 shows six of Samtec's 112 Gbps PAM4 connector systems. It includes board-to-board connector sets, as well as two Samtec Flyover® cable systems. One is a mid-board to cable backplane configuration, and the other is mid-board to front panel. These cable systems are emulating real-world data center system architectures. Each board has four Alphawave AlphaCORE Multi-Standard SerDes. For each connector set, the Alphawave SerDes is transmitting 112 Gbps … [Read more...]
Samtec, Penn State Harrisburg Collaborate in STEM and SI/PI Education
WE ARE!... I'm sure you know how the chant goes. My alma mater, Penn State Harrisburg, and my current company Samtec have a long history of technical collaboration. The PSU Harrisburg School of Science, Engineering and Technology has been a leader in STEM education - in particular, signal integrity and power integrity. Samtec continues to expand our technical capabilities, as there is an insatiable need for engineering talent. What are some if the details of the Samtec/PSU Harrisburg … [Read more...]
PECFF AI Hardware System Architecture With New Cable Backplane
This live product demonstration from OFC 2022 emulates real-world AI system architectures, based on the PECFF form factor. It incorporates a PECFF backplane with PECFF add-in-cards. Matt Burns, Technical Marketing Manager at Samtec, walks us through the demonstration. He explains that we're comparing the performance of two backplane architectures. The first is a traditional rigid PCB backplane, with Samtec HSEC6-DV edge card connectors interfacing with the PECFF add-in … [Read more...]
Samtec Launches New SI/PI Capabilities and Resource Landing Page
Once upon a time . . . I really don't like starting a blog out that way, but in this case, it applies. Bear with me. Like most undergrad Electrical Engineering students, I took "Introduction to Electromagnetics" my junior year. I thought it would straight forward due to previous exposure in Physics. Boy, was I wrong! No matter how hard I tried, I made no sense of some dude named Maxwell and upside-down triangles. I dropped the class in the fall semester and took it in the summer with … [Read more...]
Rugged Optical Transceivers For Military, Aerospace, Industrial Applications
It was good to see all of our friends and associates who visited Samtec at OFC 2022. Primarily for data center and telecom professionals, OFC showcases solutions in network equipment and software, active and passive components, test and manufacturing equipment, data center/IT products, cable, and fiber. In this video from OFC 2022, Samtec's Kevin Burt discusses Samtec rugged optical transceivers, from the popular FireFly™ optical cable system to new VCSEL-based multi-mode cables. OFC … [Read more...]
Samtec and Otava Describe Flexible Antenna-to-Bits Architectures in Upcoming Webinar
"Antenna-to-bits" simplifies describing complex RF signal chains. Yet real-world RF signal chain development is not simple. This is especially true in mmWave and microwave bands. In Samtec's world, that usually covers 18 - 110 GHz frequency ranges. Emerging antenna-to-bits architectures in 5G, Radar, EW, SATCOM, and instrumentation applications necessitate careful design tradeoffs due to the sensitive nature of mmWave bands. RF system designers are challenged to … [Read more...]
Immersion Cooling or Convection? Connectors Exhibit Outstanding Performance In Both Cases
One of Samtec’s many live product demonstrations at OFC 2022 shows high-performance copper and optical cable assemblies performing equally well, whether in immersion cooling or in typical convection environments. Ralph Page, Systems Architect at Samtec, explains the setup and results of this incredibly popular demo. The demo consists of two identical Samtec product demonstration boards. They both incorporate a variety of high-speed interconnect systems, including copper-based Samtec … [Read more...]
Cable Backplane + META-DX1 Ethernet PHY= Great Performance at 3 Meters, 56 Gbps
Ralph Page, Systems Architect at Samtec, walks us through a live product demonstration combining Microchip’s META-DX1 family of Ethernet PHYs with Samtec ExaMAX® backplane cable systems. Samtec ExaMAX backplane cable systems improve signal integrity and routability using Samtec Flyover® high-speed cable technology, which routes signals above a lossy PCB using Eye Speed® co-extruded, ultra-low skew twinax for improved bandwidth and reach. The Microchip® META-DX1 is a 1.2 Terabit … [Read more...]
Outstanding Performance: Microchip META-DX1 Ethernet PHY, Front Panel QSFP-DD
Industry leading ICs, like the Microchip® META-DX1, combined with products like Samtec’s FQSFP-DD cable solutions, provide an ideal proof-of-concept for front panel QSFP-DD data center communication system architectures. META-DX1 is a 1.2 Terabit Ethernet PHY with long reach 56G PAM4 SerDes, and features such as MACsec encryption, FlexE, and nanosecond-level PTP timestamping accuracy. With support for Ethernet rates from 1 to 400 GE, 48 Serdes, and integrated crosspoint, META-DX1 enables a … [Read more...]
