Our friends at EETech are sponsoring Industry Tech Days. Although they didn’t ask for my advice, I suggested they use the tagline of “Three Days of Peace and Music” for the event. They rejected that brilliant (and original) suggestion and went with “the largest ever virtual trade show and conference for electrical engineers worldwide.” Next, I proactively suggested “Have It Your Way” as a slogan to describe the variety of content available. Not knowing a good idea when they hear … [Read more...]
The Future of Trade Shows
As I write this in early July, we are looking at the calendar of events and trade shows for this year, and there are few survivors. The Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 has seen almost all public events cancelled, from the Olympics to the Eurovision Song Contest. Less well reported, but of more importance to manufacturers like Samtec, is the almost total collapse of the trade show calendar. Trade shows are an important channel of communications with customers. A booth at a trade … [Read more...]
Samtec to Exhibit at OCP Virtual Summit
The global coronavirus pandemic continues to spread. Thankfully, parts of normal life are returning. Employees are slowly going back to work. State parks are opening. Sports leagues like the Budesliga and the NFL are ramping up activities. Light is (finally?) at the end of the COVID-19 tunnel. However, new "normals" may be regular "normals". Trade shows have been "normal" to business. Will they continue to be so? Some of us hope so. In the mean time, many large trade show events have … [Read more...]
Samtec, Mouser and Electronic Design Partner on New 5G Webinar
5G is coming! 5G is coming! Is 5G coming? The first two phrases literally described the global 5G rollout at the beginning of 2020. Handset manufacturers, equipment providers, mobile carriers and industry analysts anticipated a strong year. Is 5G still coming? Well, that depends. Like all parts of life, the 5G rollout has been upended by the unfortunate coronavirus pandemic. Sadly, conspiracy theories linking the virus to mobile towers led to acts of arson. Despite the … [Read more...]
Samtec Launches gEEk® spEEk Webinar Series
Given the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, it appears the WFH “trend” may become permanent. Indirectly, or maybe directly, the present situation has provided us with yet another way to engage with design engineers and SI experts globally. At home, video streaming is growing exponentially. Professionally, webinars abound on many topics. So, without further ado . . . Samtec is pleased to launch gEEk® spEEk! What is gEEk® spEEk? DesignCon attendees typically look forward every year to … [Read more...]

Now more than ever it is important that we take the time to do something we enjoy. It is also the perfect time to catch up with some of the engineers who are doing fascinating work on the internet. And so, to help you spend some time, I am going to take a look at a few blogs, podcasts and videos that you might have missed. Grant Imahara Let's start with someone you might have seen before. Optimizing 112 Gbps PAM4 Interconnect Design Leveraging ANSYS® HFSS™
It seems like everyone is thinking about the global coronavirus scare, and rightfully so. Workers, students and those most as risk are staying home. What are people doing at home? They are probably binge-watching their favorite video streaming service. It appears not even COVID-19 can slow consumers' insatiable demand for data. This puts constant pressure on internet providers, equipment vendors and components suppliers to develop higher-performance networks. Samtec is a global leader in … [Read more...]
A BIOMEDevice San Jose Recount
This was the third and final BIOMEDevice that Samtec participated in this year, and we wrapped it up with a bang. Samtec displayed a wide range of its products at its booth all the while presenting in panel discussion and leading a Lunch and Learn. Panel Discussion Steve Groothuis (Groot), Samtec's Chief Technology Officer for Samtec Microelectronics, lead a panel discussion on the role of smart sensors in the rollout and application of of wearable devices throughout the healthcare … [Read more...]
Is Copper Dead?
In 1995, I attended a seminar in which the presenter told us that copper was dead. This sort of statement is not new. The connector market is filled with armchair pundits who predict the demise of everything from D-Subminiature connectors (which are very much alive and kicking) to the V.35 telecommunications connector (which is as dead as the Dodo). This just goes to prove that it is almost impossible to predict the future trends of this industry with any certainty. Making … [Read more...]
