The Open Compute Project (OCP) is a collaborative community focused on redesigning hardware technology around the IT infrastructure. The goal is to make the data center more efficient, flexible, and scalable. While Samtec does not actively build frames, cooling systems, or piping for the data center floor we want to make sure that our connectors play well within these spaces. OCP Connectors Samtec is keeping an eye on hard connector requirements being discussed in the work groups. We … [Read more...]
VPX System and Component Qualifications
In today's blog episode, we would like to introduce our newest White Paper: "System and Component Qualifications for VPX Solutions, Create a novel, low-cost, easy to build, high reliability test platform for VPX modules". Over the past year, Samtec has worked with EIZO Rugged Solutions to develop the best, most cost effective, way to evaluate your new VPX system. What is VPX? A Rover from Down Under
When you think of Martian or Lunar Rovers, the land Down Under may not be at the top of the list. We think of NASA, Blue Origin, or SpaceX. If you dig just a little you will find that Universities around the world compete in annual competitions to showcase rovers they design for simulated space missions. It is one of these Universities that Samtec collaborated with to make sure their rover was well connected. To Infinity and Beyond! I had the privilege of talking with the electronics … [Read more...]
Engineering Smarter with Supplyframe
We recently worked with Supplyframe on their "Engineering Smarter with Samtec" video to highlight some ways that Samtec helps the engineering community design their products more efficiently. We understand that a connector may seem like a small piece of the puzzle in a full system. Samtec and Supplyframe want to make sure you have all the support and tools at your disposal to select the right solution for your system. Check out the video and then read on for additional information or links … [Read more...]
The Farmer’s Almanac for the Connected Farm.
Spring is in the air and summer is just around the corner. It is time to get out the Old Farmers Almanac and check on the planting schedule as you plan out your garden. If you are unfamiliar with a Farmers Almanac, it is a publication containing weather forecasts, planting charts, astronomical data, recipes, and articles for the upcoming year dating back to 1792. Like the Almanac, Samtec's website can provide all the support and tools to equip you in your next years planning for electronic … [Read more...]
A Personal Reflection on Automotive Connectors
Some of my earliest exposure to automotive connectors was while working on my first car. It has been over 25 years since my father and I pulled a beat up old 1968 Mustang to the barn to rebuild. The engine wasn't special, with the stock inline 6 cylinder motor. (I am pretty sure that is the reason my dad allowed me to make that my first car.) His back in the day had a little more “pep in the step” and he would get in plenty of trouble driving the country roads around Southern … [Read more...]
Will AI Embed itself into the Mil/Aero market in 2021?
Embedded systems and Artificial Intelligence seem to be the leading trends in the Mil/Aero Market. Industry manager Chuck Grantz agrees with articles written in COTS Journal, Military & Aerospace Electronics, and Electronic Specifier, to name a few. Increasing embedded systems and sensors closer to the end use, as well as utilizing Artificial Intelligence to assist and improve performance seem to be mentioned across all applications. How is Samtec prepared for this? Are … [Read more...]
Youth Science Summit and the BattleBots Journey
Over the past year we have followed a new robot fighting team for this seasons BattleBots on the Discovery Channel. Spoiler alert… things did not end quite all sunshine, rainbows, and a giant nut (the trophy awarded to the winning robot). The team did have an amazing time and experience with the BattleBots community. Join us as we have a conversation about their robot journey with the Kentucky Science Center’s Youth Science Summit. STEAM for the Youth The Youth Science Sumit is aimed to … [Read more...]
Medical Connectors and Technologies at Samtec
We have customers ask from time to time to see our Medical Connectors catalog. Some of our older sales guys would drop the full line catalog on the table and smile. The customer may look a bit confused until we started having a conversation and find out about what they really needed. Samtec has historically not locked a connector family into a specific market. Samtec categorizes our connectors in what we call our Solution Blocks. We make connectors that can fit in every market! We group … [Read more...]
Love Connection… Samtec’s most loved connector
Love is in the air around Samtec. As we make it through February, we are reminded of Valentines Day and how much we love our families, our jobs, and you! Plus, it is very cool around our headquarters in Southern Indiana. We had a lovely ice warning and woke up to about ½” (12.7mm) of ice coating most things around the factory. What else can you do except stay home and be with the ones you love… or maybe it is time to find that love connection you have been looking for! Electronic … [Read more...]
