Readers of the Samtec blog know that the demand for data keeps increasing. Rightly, data center applications may be the first to enter one's mind. However, faster speeds are required in AI/ML, Mil/Aero, Automotive, Medical, Instrumentation, and many other applications as well. Engineers developing new products at higher speeds need reassurance that the components they select work as advertised. Samtec-designed Evaluation and Development Kits simplify the interconnect design process and reduce … [Read more...]

Samtec’s Space Legacy
For more than twenty-five years, Samtec has been engaged in developing interconnect products and supporting the standards for systems that launch into space. The first stage of Samtec’s space legacy began when one of the company’s earliest products, the SamArray® High-Density Open-Pin-Field Array, was selected as part of the VITA42 XMC standard in 2002. Since then, Samtec engineers have continued to engage with numerous standards bodies to develop the standards and interconnects that make … [Read more...]

Samtec Supports Future “Rocket Scientists”
My wife and I recently came back from a remote island. We marveled at a clear night sky so far away from light pollution. It reminded me that for millennia humans have been awestruck by planets, stars, meteors and more. Sometimes it's hard to imagine humans could only "touch" space since 1961. Today, lunar, planetary and space exploration always captures the imagination. Recently, NASA also published audio files of a dust devil from Mars. It sounds just like talking on your smart phone at … [Read more...]
Practical Guidelines To Achieve Quality Connector Solder Joints: Part Three
Beyond the construction of the connector, another factor that is crucial to the performance of the connector on the printed circuit board is the quality of the connector solder joints. This is the third in a series of three blogs, which are interviews with David Decker, the Manager of Samtec Interconnect Processing Group (IPG). In these blogs, David answers some of the most frequently asked questions about connector solder joints. As stated previously, the goal in answering these … [Read more...]
Connector Plating FAQs: Normal Force, Cycles, Temperature, and Other Essentials
Plating affects the life and quality of the connector system, including corrosion resistance, conductivity, solderability, and of course, cost. This is part two of a discussion with Phil Eckert, Samtec’s Quality Engineering Manager, and Matt Brown, Principal Engineer, about all things pertaining to connector plating. Here’s a link to part one. These blogs, and the upcoming ones in this series, answer connector plating questions that Samtec Quality and Processing experts are frequently asked. … [Read more...]
Samtec’s Connector All-Star Team Includes Veterans and Rookies
I'm a baseball fan. I particularly appreciate defense: pitchers' duals, sacrifice bunts, diving catches (in both the infield and outfield), and robbing a hitter of a home run. I love The Rookie and Moneyball. We're coming up on the MLB All-Star Game, which I don't appreciate as much as regular or post-season games, but it's still baseball. Last week I saw the replay again from 1970 when Pete Rose took out Ray Fosse in the bottom of the the12th inning to win the game. I appreciate the … [Read more...]

Higher Standards Within the Mil/Aero Industry
My father served 25+ years as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. As a military kid, I never really understood what his job entailed. Honestly, my only thought was "cool, my dad is traveling all over the world...". Little did I appreciate the precise and rugged avionics and mechanics found on aircraft carriers. My eyes were opened to the inner workings of Mil/Aero electronics at the recent Sea-Air-Space Expo. This event attracts global leaders, key decision makers and solutions … [Read more...]
